Is there hope for Detroit?

Detroit is the worse city in the U.S. right now.  Sky high crime and unemployment is turning Detroit into a virtual slum.  Can a slum turn back into a suburb?  Not too long ago the worst slum in America was considered to be Charlotte Street by President Jimmy Carter.

Charlotte Street was found in the South Bronx in New York City.  In just 1975, Charlotte Street was broken down abandoned buildings filled with criminals and very dangerous people.  Now, this same street is full of family homes, trees and grass, a nice, neat suburb.  But it took time.

It may take time for Detroit, but thankfully, Detroit is not in as bad a shape as Charlotte Street was.  Charlotte Street had an advantage in that the subway was close by.

Easy access to transportation is an enticing thing to a neighborhood.  Government agencies pitched in with nonprofit developers and other people to renovate Charlotte Street to become what it is today, a thriving suburb.  It will take work, but Detroit can do it.
